Privacy policy

Who we are

The Life in the UK Test app is published by Northstar Infinity Works Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (number 17326480), registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ZC194241). Registered office: C/O: Elsg Ltd Regus, Building 2, Building 2, Marlins Meadow, Watford, England, WD18 8YA.

The short version

The app works without an account and keeps your study on your phone. There is no advertising, no analytics and no tracking in the app, and we never sell data. The app goes online by itself only on the purchase screen, to show the price and to confirm or restore a purchase.

What stays on your phone

Your answers and results, reading positions, saved sections, study plan progress, the test date and test result you choose to enter, and your settings (appearance, reading speed, reminder time) are stored only on your phone, inside the app. We cannot see them. Deleting the app deletes them.

Features that use your phone

Listening: sentences are played from recordings inside the app or read by your phone's own speech engine. Nothing you do is recorded, and the app does not use the microphone.

Daily reminder: if you turn it on, your phone shows a notification at the time you chose. It is scheduled on your phone; no server is involved. You can turn it off on the study plan screen or in your phone's settings.

Rating: after you tell the app you passed, or after a mock test that went well, the app may ask your app store to show its rating prompt, a few times a year at most. When it last asked is stored only on your phone. Anything you submit goes to Apple or Google under their terms, not to us.

When you contact us

Links such as "Report a problem" open your own e-mail app with a message you can edit before sending. It names the question and the app version, and nothing about your study. If you send it, we receive your e-mail address and what you write, use them only to answer and fix the problem, and keep them no longer than that needs.

Links to other websites

Links to GOV.UK and other sources open in your browser. Those websites have their own privacy policies.

Payments

Purchases in the app are handled by Apple or Google. We never see your card or bank details.

To confirm purchases we use RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc.), a service that checks them with Apple and Google for us. The app contacts RevenueCat only when you open the purchase screen, buy or restore a purchase. RevenueCat receives a random identifier that the app creates (not your name or e-mail address), your app store's record of the purchase, and your phone's language and currency settings. Like any online service, it also sees your internet address when the app connects. It stores this data in the United States. We use it only to give you the course you paid for and to count purchases. RevenueCat's own privacy policy is at revenuecat.com/privacy.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask us for a copy of personal data we hold about you, to correct it or to delete it. As the app does not send us your study data, that means e-mails you have sent us and, if you bought the course, the purchase record RevenueCat keeps for us. That record carries only a random identifier, so send us the order number from your Apple or Google receipt and we will find it. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).

Children

The app is meant for adults preparing for the Life in the UK Test and is not directed at children.
